Most small businesses that do business in smaller communities will be there for their town in their time of need, and they also give to the nonprofits in the city. They feel a sense of connection and they feel that it is the right thing to do to support local causes. Often, larger companies do not give as much to the local community, although as good corporate citizens they may give to larger national causes and use that to strengthen their brand name. It’s all good as they say, still, it is the towns and communities in America that really need the help, and doing good deeds locally is a life saver for so many small groups. If you are an entrepreneur, I have some advice for you. You should never just scrape the cream off the top in a community and leave, you must (if you want your business to grow, think more long-term). Give a little back as you grow. For years, I made a point that no matter how much I expanded my business, or how many cities we sold franchises in, I would always help local causes, and make sure our franchisees did as well. So if you ask me; “Is It Important for Businesses to Give Back to Their Community?” My answer is, for me it is absolutely a necessity. You see, folks that make a ton of money, without respect for the town, don’t impress me, I am sickened by that, I think it’s just disgusting, thus, will not associate with those who don’t care. Maybe they just don’t get it, but either way, they are of no value to me, or their communities. Please consider this. Lance Winslow is a retired franchisor – Lance Winslow’s Bio.
